Living Authentically?

Several times per week, I sit in the parking lot outside my youngest son’s jujitsu class, and while he’s learning how to put me in another chokehold or armbar, I write books and newsletters.

In a busy house with two teen boys, the only quiet time is usually in the car or the smallest room in our home. But the seat in there isn’t as comfortable. 😉

It’s currently Saturday at about 1 pm.

I’m sitting in my car again editing the transcription of a conversation with the brilliant Dr. John Demartini for my upcoming book. If you recall, it’s the Entrepreneur Secrets book that I’ve been randomly sending you quote.

Although I’m thinking of changing the title to Timeless Wisdom – Lessons On Happiness & Prosperity from The Masters of Our Time since I realize the knowledge and guidance I’ve captured from some of the greatest minds of the 20th Century will be just as valuable for non-entrepreneurs.

Although editing out essential ideas and making them easy to consume, follow, and apply can be painstaking, it’s also like digging for diamonds and finding them!

During our conversation, John mentioned facilitating his signature Breakthrough Experience course 1,116 times with over 100,000 students attending.

One of his experiences is to help people live a values-based life, which leads to greater fulfillment and happiness.

So I asked how he helped people discover what they value most and how to use that information to live a more authentic life?

Without missing a beat, John laid out a clear, concise set of 12 questions for uncovering your subconscious values.

It blew me away!

That was the shortest, most impactful Master Class on how to live your most authentic life I had ever witnessed.

So, of course, those questions and that entire (edited) conversation are going into my new book.

Those questions got me thinking about how we spend our lives.

Without self-awareness, mindfulness, and intentionality, we merely move from one To-Do list or stress-filled problem to the next.

Without having a clear purpose, we float wherever the river takes us rather than swim towards the desired destination.

I’m all for going with the flow, but not if it takes me off the edge of a cliff.

So, here are four of Dr. Martini’s Value Discovery questions to help clarify what you value most, so you can compare it to how you’re currently spending your time.

  1. What do you fill your personal and intimate space with because anything precious to you, you’ll keep in close proximity?
  2. What energizes you?
  3. What goals do you actively pursue that you can show evidence of making incremental progress?
  4. What gives you chills and brings a tear to your eye when engaging with the material or experience?

Unless you are Buddhist, we only get one trip through life, but how much fun can you have reincarnated as an earthworm? (no disrespect intended)

Plus, most do not ponder these types of questions until at least the mid-forties, so time is of the essence!

If your life isn’t how you want it to be, change it by first identifying what you value most and then taking small, incremental steps to bring more alignment between what you treasure and how you spend your time.

I love taking the wisdom of the ages and sharing it with others who also desire to live their best life now.

So sharing this message with you is proof that I am in alignment with my values.

If you have an example of showing up as your authentic self, I’d love to hear it.

🙂 Tim Shurr
